The #SocialTestride makes a stop in Barcelona.

The lucky participants.

The lucky participants.

As soon as the sun shines in Barcelona, young and old flock to the beaches. But lazing around on the sand and in the warm sea was the last thing on the minds of Pedro Cañamares, Albert Marti and Franz Inselkammer. They were the lucky riders who had been selected for the #SocialTestride in Barcelona. They would observe their city from a whole new perspective for an entire day. At the BMW Motorrad Barcelona dealership in the Sant Adrià de Besòs district, they met up with their tour guide Jordi Canudas. Jordi is a designer; he lives and works in Barcelona. But his Less Lamp light is even represented in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. So a wide perspective was guaranteed.

First, the participants got to know their vehicles: the BMW C evolution fleet had since clocked up a few miles. After all, the e-scooters had just conquered Amsterdam and Paris over the past few weeks. And now it was the turn of Barcelona. The briefing on the C evolution was provided in a mixture of Spanish, German, English and French. After which it was a case of exploring the Catalonian capital in its extraordinary location between the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees. Quietly but swiftly, the participants make their way to the inner city. Smartphones always at the ready to take photos and share them instantly in the various networks.

The finest moments of the tour.

City tour buses crawl through the heavy traffic. The #SocialTestride riders had plenty to laugh about. They tested the four different riding modes along their route through the city – for the best combination of acceleration, speed and energy recovery in constantly changing traffic conditions. When it comes to mobility, Barcelona is light years ahead: with bike-sharing, an all-encompassing tramway network, hybrid taxis and more and more electrically-powered vehicles on the roads. So it's no wonder that the C evolution attracted a great deal of attention. And positive reactions from police motorcycles, scooter riders and a wide array of electric vehicles did not go unmissed. And the many tourists were keen to know when this innovative 'green-machine' would be available for sale in their countries.

Station 2: Palau de Música.

Palau de la Música Catalana – the very name of this concert hall is music to the ears. Its was built between 1905 and 1908. In the meantime, the acoustics, which were originally only designed for choirs, were optimised. Enabling classical and even pop concerts to be enjoyed with perfect sound quality. While almost completely noiselessly, the #SocialTestride gets underway against this breathtaking backdrop: the five riders set their C evolutions in motion to discover the city.

Station 3: Jordi's Studio.

Jordi founded his design studio in 2007 in London. In 2011, he moved to Barcelona. Luckily for us, because this is how we gained an exclusive insight into his world. The spectrum of the studio is varied: design, product development, art direction, interior design and production are all part of the portfolio. What remains important to Jordi here is carefully handling a wide array of materials and of course sustainably using the available resources.

Station 4: Encants Barcelona.

The unique mirror roof of Fermín Vázquez stretches above the Encants. At this, one of the oldest flea markets in Europe, there are countless curiosities. This is where the rare, old and proven are located – and sometimes even the new and innovative, like the C evolution. Curious passers-by are also excited about this discovery. There are just as many questions as there are photos. But our riders remain calm. They are already used to attention and receptions like this.

Station 5: Mirablau.

Station 5: Mirablau.

The last station of the #SocialTestride was finally the Mirablau restaurant. The participants savoured yet another incomparable panoramic view of Barcelona over a concluding evening meal. The journey there out of the city was an experience all on its own. And away from the big city aesthetics, the C evolution is simply great fun. So it's no wonder that all participants went without alcohol during the meal: no one wanted to miss out on the ride back into town – despite the offer to hand over the keys to the C evolution at the restaurant.
