They have all mastered their training as on-road tour guides and off-road instructors, and have now taken their skill set to the next level. They are the ones who can take a group of riders and turn them into a cohesive team. Your BMW R 1300 GS
It’s no coincidence that the Expedition Leader training takes place on the BMW R 1300 GS. No other motorcycle can get more out of its riders, while also expanding the rider’s comfort zone. The versatile ergonomic options are of interest to many different types of riders and can increase your stamina. It offers easy handling with a kerb weight of 237 kg, and its intelligent equipment adds an impressive simplicity to the riding experience. Even when riding with luggage, you will always stay on the right track, be it on straight sections, when leaning, or when braking.

Certified instructors have travelled from all over the world to begin the Expedition Leader adventure. The participants from Australia, Taiwan, Mexico and Europe are as diverse as the Expedition Leader training itself. 8 nations, 7 men and one woman: The common denominator? They all work as tour guides and instructors in their home countries. The Expedition Leaders have the physical, mental and technical abilities required to help each individual rider reach their full potential. In their training, they face the toughest conditions and learn how to manage all possible situations that may occur during an off-road expedition away from civilisation. From physical injuries to bad weather conditions, right up to accident situations or spontaneous repairs – the Expedition Leader are perfectly prepared for all scenarios.

Outside of civilisation, there are no service stations or ice cream shops. If you go on a multi-day tour, you need stamina, full concentration, as well as the right combination of power and technical expertise. Day-long tours through deep sand, gravel and mud are part of the training. This prepares our Expedition Leaders for the tours you will go on together, and provides them with the skills they need to help you reach your best.

An accident occurs far away from civilisation? A loss of motivation? Obstacles in the road? On a true adventure, there are many ways that the limits of your mental fortitude can be tested. Expedition Leaders have been trained to deal with exactly these kinds of situations, and always know what to do.

The BMW GS models are known for their reliability. Nevertheless, in the unlikely event that the demanding terrain causes a technical defect, the Expedition Leaders are well equipped to deal with it. The Expedition Leader qualification includes training as a field mechanic. They are able to perform the necessary repairs on a BMW R 1300 GS with a minimal number of tools, even in the middle of the wilderness. Especially on rough terrain that can be hard on the bikes and the riders, you’ll have to be able to respond to technical problems as a team.
